There are many things that we as people do to express ourselves. They can be along the lines of art, dance, or in the form of music.

What is the significance of music? Why is it so important in our lives? Who was most successful composing music? Why are there so many different types of genres? These are some questions that people struggle to find the answer to.

“When I am angry, then music is something I can turn to, and it releases all of my bad energy,” said junior, Bethany Isham.

One purpose of music is to express feelings. Those emotions may be personal or dealing with someone else’s experiences. They show how people think and if you can relate to the messages usually sent through the music. There are many different genres and composers that all contribute to music in some shape and form.

“I can feel the song, the melody, getting into the songs and I love being challenged,” said sophomore Scarlett Jiha.

Personally, music is my passion. I write poetry, short stories, and musical lyrics. I also work with instrumentals to put my thoughts to beats, called rapping. For those of you that love music and are really passionate about it, I’m sure that you can relate to this. Many people play instruments or sing or do other interesting things involving music.

“Rock N’ Roll gets me in the mood to party,” said sophomore Brandon Bittle.

Music comes from the heart and, it is all up to the individual how you choose to express it. My musical influence is from all types of genres. Hip hop, Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Reggae, and African music. What influences you? Who are you inspired by? As you think of these things, the spirit of music will began to circulate. My composer influences are T.I, Lil Wayne, Kirk Franklin, and Tupac. Who are yours?

“Beethoven and the Beetles are just a few of the artist that I enjoy,” librarian Ted Otte said, “Beethoven is grand, inspirational, and the Beatles are versatile, and were a big contributor to pop music.”

I wonder if there is a sentimental object that you take with you anywhere you go. Mine is my I-pod. If you ask anyone about me, they will say she keeps an I-pod anywhere she goes. I do this because, of my love of music. When you have a strong feeling about something stay with it!

Jazz Jackson
