Price Check

February 9, 2009

Recently, Apple has decided to make a few adjustments dealing with iTunes. The biggest change is going to be in cost.

Cost per song will fluctuate between 69 cents, 99 cents, and $1.29, starting at the beginning of April. Prices will vary depending on how much record companies decide to charge Apple. The least popular songs will be the cheapest and the expensive being the most popular songs. Supposedly, more songs will be priced at .69 cents rather than $1.29. Popular albums are still going to be priced at $9.99.

“This is an outrage. Totally ridiculous,” senior Justin Jones said, “I hope most of my songs will be .69 cents.”

Apple will now be offering music in iTunes Plus, Apple’s DRM-free format with higher-quality for audio quality virtually the same as the original recordings. iTunes customers can also download songs from the world’s largest music catalog directly onto their iPhone 3G over their 3G network just as they do with Wi-Fi today, for the same price as downloading to their computer.
With iTunes being the most popular source of buying online music, Apple will see how these changes will affect sales.

“From here on out, I will be getting my music from Limewire. I can’t be buying songs a $1.29,” senior Bill Borgemenke said, “I will only use iTunes for purchasing a few videos.”
